Roccaporena (PG) training camp

The town has existed since the Middle Ages, when Santa Rita da Cascia was born there in 1381. In 1939 the Opera di Santa Rita was founded, to promote the cult of the Saint, take care of and make known her memories in Roccaporena, do works of charity on her example by establishing an orphanage. The traditional isolation of the places was interrupted in 1950, when the road (the only one) connecting Roccaporena to Cascia was inaugurated.

At the end of the nineteenth century Roccaporena became for a decade a meeting and excursion place for numerous Italian intellectuals, gathered around Luigi Galassi, rector of the University of Rome "La Sapienza", whose family was originally from Roccaporena.
